MARK BARROTT "Sketches from an island" Mark Barrott's Sketches From An Island compresses this Balearic heartbeat into nine warm gems which paint a picture of the island, the people and the magnetic beauty that pulses through it. Recorded in Ibiza's northern hills using weird percussion, some slide guitars and a few borrowed synths, it's a melodic and mysterious representation of a place seeped in a rich and rebellious history. [ file under: balearic ]		COCO, STEEL & LOVEBOMB "The chill out album" Coco, Steel & Lovebomb last got together in 1994 to make an album for Warp Records called It. 20 years later, on mid summers day, the enigmatic trio return with The Chillout Album, a kind of homage to 90s chillout rooms and lost weekends at festivals. The tracks were made in a series of late night sessions in various south London studios under the heavy influence of many crackly vinyl spins of classic albums by Eno, KLF and Laraaji. This is 44 minutes and 44 seconds of melodies and grooves interwoven with found sound and analogue noise, making one long, immersive piece that demands repeat listening. [ file under: KLF ]
DIAMOND VERSION "CI" When the Raster-Noton label's Olaf Bender (aka Byetone) and Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) formed Diamond Version, the experimental techno producers had been associated for several years but they hadn't recorded as a duo. Rather than release their material on Raster-Noton, they signed with Daniel Miller's higher-profile Mute label. From September 2012 through May 2013, Bender and Nicolai issued five numbered EPs of pared-down, muscular techno. This is the album. While most of the previous Coh records openly shy away from accentuated beat structures and instead build up their rhythmical content by layering waves and pulses, every track on To beat is padded with just that - beats. The Bristol, England-based group's self-titled, self-produced, and self-released debut album showcases their skill at modernizing dream pop's classic sounds. Fauns' beautiful melodies and Alison Garner's inviting vocals create a more assured and sensuous atmosphere than many of the band's contemporaries, especially on My Bloody Valentine. 2014 2Cd reissue. ME'SHELL NDEGEOCELLO "Comet, come to me" Comet, Come to Me, boldly begins here with a cold-blooded update of Whodini's Friends that swirls and pierces. It sets the tone for 11 originals that are largely subdued but fraught with assorted forms of heartache and internal discomfort.
